Bonnie Owen

When first starting out as a fine artist I worked hard to present a realistic image. I took many classes and practiced many techniques for hours. As I became more experienced I realized that I wanted my work to be more expressive than photo-realistic. Using color and shape to express a feeling or characteristic is what fascinates me. Whether figurative, abstract, or landscape, layering paint, scraping some paint off, adding new layers, and working with odd tools is the process that gives me the most satisfaction. There can be as many as 10 to 12 layers of paint. I usually work with acrylic paint as it dries more quickly, and I am impatient to develop my concept. It is always experimental and sometimes surprising.
